From unspeakable torment, which has plagued him for more than ten weeks, Michael J. Walz was finally released on Friday morning shortly before 10 o'clock in his residence on East second Street. From the day he was taken ill, his condition was hopeless, as the medical examination, which the specialist Dr. Keller from Toledo later confirmed, showed the existence of a very far advanced bladder cancer, whose remedy was unthinkable. So the patient wasted away, until a soft death brought the desired relief.
Michael J. Walz was born on the 8th of August 1866 in Louisville, Kentucky, and was therefore at his passing 49 years, 2 months and 14 days old. As a 7 year old boy he came with his parents to Napoleon and in the year 1876 to Defiance, where he remained resident until the end of his life. On the 23rd of May 1889 he married Miss Maria Weber from Noble Township, who presented him with ten children. Of these two daughters died, and six boys and 2 girls mourn with the widow the premature death of the dear spouse and father. Besides these are left behind also the stepmother widow Cäcilie Walz of here and the two brothers Father Max Walz in Rome city, Ind., and Franz A. Walz in Rochester, N.Y. His mother died in Napoleon and his father here on the 7th of November 1882.
The deceased worked for many years in the Turnbull Wagon Factory. During Cleveland's second term he was the assistant Postmaster; later secretary of the Cemetery Board and the ?service board and at his passing the registrar of this district. For many years he was the president of the A.G.D. Sickness Support Society, additionally at the time of his death president of the D.R.K State Union, the St. Boniface Society, the local branch of the Catholic Knights of Ohio and the Catholic Knights of America.
