On the road running along the north bank of the Maumee, on Monday morning about half past seven an accident occurred in which the plumber Friedrich H. Krull was a fatality. He and Jay Horsey, who both worked for the hardware dealer Frank B. Diehl, were in his Ford automobile on the way to a farm near Jewell, where there was a job in progress. Horsey drove the machine, which on a small stretch east of the so-called Evans Farm suddenly and unexpectedly left the road, turned completely over and came to rest on its side. Horsey held tight in the machine and came away with light scratches; Krull on the other hand crashed into the right shoulder and was thrown a short distance from the machine. He was lifted up and put at first in the buggy of Mr. Ulrich Ball, who happened to come that way, to ride with him to town. Later the victim was put into an automobile which with John Compo, Elda Allen and Frank Schweitzer had rushed to the accident scene, and brought him rapidly to Defiance to Doctor Ury's office, where at eight minutes after eight he passed away, without once having completely regained consciousness. In the crash he had broken the right shoulder blade and this had pierced the lung and caused an absolutely fatal injury.
Friedrich H. Krull was born on the 6th of May 1878 in Defiance as the son of the married couple Hermann and Charlotte Krull, both of whom died before him. He grew to manhood here and learned from his father the craft of tinsmithing, with which he fed himself honestly until the end of his life. On the 7th of November 1907 in Toledo he married Miss Anna Tabbert, who died in December of the year 1911. Surviving are the orphaned daughter Charlotte, the sisters Mrs. Heinrich Goller in south Richland and Misses Olivia and Anna Krull of here, as well as the brothers Christ. Krull in Traverse County, Mich., Theodor Krull in St. Paul, Minn., and Julius G. Krull of here. The unfortunate was an industrious and upstanding young man, whose premature death is mourned by a large circle of friends along with the family.
