Johann Friedrich Schultz
Johann Friedrich Schultz on Saturday about a quarter to one in his residence on Wayne Street was taken from this time by death. Born on the 22nd of February 1830 in Börgitz in the Prussian county of Gardelegen, he came in June 1849 to this country and immediately settled in this area. Many times her served in public offices and was at the time of his passing the assessor of the First ward. Up into a great age Mr Schultz enjoyed exceptional health, which enabled him to overcome some serious illnesses. Only just two years ago he declared on the occasion of his 80th birthday to the author of these pages, who in him has lost one of his best friends: "If I would always be so healthy and content, I wouldn't mind living to 100 years old." Four weeks ago, he caught a severe cold at work, which developed first into bronchitis and then into pneumonia and brain-swelling. These illnesses, as much as he fought against them, were more than the elder could ?defeat. He was one of the founders of the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran congregation, for which he had made many serious offerings. He also belonged to the Men's League of that same congregation.
Left behind are the widow Elisabeth, a born Dittmer, whom he married on the 11th of May 1855, the daughter Mrs Maria .... (truncated)
