Floyd S. Crum, lifetime resident of Liberty Center and a rural mail carrier for 42 years, died at his home last Sunday morning. He had been ill for several years with a heart condition.
He was the son of John W. and Ida Crum and was born in Liberty Center 66 years ago.
For 42 years he had served this community as a rural letter carrier. During this time he had witnessed many changes in conditions along the roads, in buildings and growth of crops, and in the people, of the community. He had served his patrons through two great conflicts by carrying letters to parents and sons who were separated by the war. He retired from the mail service in August of 1949.
He was an active member of Tioga Lodge No. 623, Knights of Pythias.
On Sept. 25, 1907 he was united in marriage with Laura Hoffman and to this union were born two children, a son, Dahrel, and a daughter, Meredith. His wife departed this life on March 11, 1912. From then on he with his son lived with his mother until her death. He was exceedingly kind and devoted to her as long as she lived. She passed away in 1937 at the age of 82 years.
He leaves to mourn their loss, the son, Dahrel, of Liberty Center; the daughter, Meredith Carpenter, of Wauseon; one brother, Earl, of Phoenix, Arizona; three grandchildren, Darilyn and Ronnie Crum, Thomas Carpenter, and other relatives and friends.
